Changes in EV Incentives NSW – Effective January 1, 2024

11 . 11 . 23|News Changes in EV Incentives NSW – Effective January 1, 2024

The New South Wales (NSW) government has made a significant announcement regarding Electric Vehicle (EV) incentives, with important changes set to take effect from January 1, 2024. These adjustments will have a notable impact on the stamp duty exemption and rebate that were previously available to eligible EV purchasers.

Commencing January 1, 2024, the stamp duty exemption and rebate will no longer be applicable for all eligible EV purchases. This signals a shift in the government’s approach concerning incentives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles across the region.

However, to alleviate the impact of this change on individuals and businesses that have already committed to purchasing an EV, there is a special provision in place. Those who have either purchased an eligible EV or placed a deposit on one before January 1, 2024, and are currently awaiting the delivery of the vehicle, will still be eligible to receive the stamp duty exemption and rebate. This applies regardless of whether the vehicle has been physically delivered by the specified date. This measure has been introduced to ensure that purchasers facing delays in vehicle delivery due to unforeseen circumstances are not disadvantaged.

Acknowledging the importance of supporting those who have taken a step toward electric vehicle ownership, the NSW government aims to facilitate a smooth transition during this change in incentives. Detailed information regarding these arrangements will be released in the near future to provide clarity and guidance to affected parties.

These changes underscore the government’s continued commitment to the electric vehicle sector and its dynamic approach to incentives, aligning with broader policy objectives. The NSW government remains dedicated to encouraging sustainable transportation options and promoting a cleaner, greener future for the region, making strides toward a more environmentally conscious society.
